About this tool

LinkedIn text formatter, explained

LinkedIn has no bold or italic button in posts, but it does display special Unicode characters that look bold or italic. This formatter turns the words you select into those characters, adds lists, and previews where the see more cut falls on desktop and mobile.

How to use it

  1. 1Write or paste your post, or start from a template: Launch, Lesson, Hiring or Event.
  2. 2Select words and click Bold, Italic, Bold italic, Monospace, Underline or Strikethrough. Click the same button again to remove that style, or Plain to clear all formatting.
  3. 3Select a few lines and click โ€ข List, 1. List, โ†’ List or โœ“ List to turn them into a list.
  4. 4Switch the preview between Desktop and Mobile to see where "โ€ฆsee more" falls, then click "Copy post".

How it works

How the formatting works

The tool does not add formatting codes. It replaces each letter of your selection with a character from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, which most fonts draw as bold, italic, bold italic or monospace sans-serif letters. Because they are ordinary characters, they survive copy and paste into LinkedIn. Bold and Monospace also convert the digits 0 to 9; Italic and Bold italic convert letters only, as Unicode has no sans-serif italic digits. Spaces, punctuation, emoji and accented letters such as รฉ stay as they are.

Each style starts again from the plain letters, so applying Italic to bold text gives italic rather than a mix. Underline and Strikethrough add a combining mark after each character, drawn as a line under or through the text.

The preview cuts the post where the feed usually shows "โ€ฆsee more": after the third line break, or at about 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile, moved back to the last space. LinkedIn's real cut depends on the screen, so treat it as a guide. The counter under the text box checks the first line and the 3,000 character limit, with each emoji counted as one character.

When to use it

Ways people use it

  • Make the hook stand out

Bold the first line of a post and check in the Mobile preview that it ends before the see more cut.

  • Structure a long post

Turn steps or benefits into a numbered list, arrows or check marks, and bold short section labels so readers can scan.

  • Write a job post

Start from the Hiring template, then emphasize the role and what the person will own so candidates find them at a glance.

  • Review a draft with someone

Share link copies an address that reopens the same post and preview, so a colleague can read it before you publish.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How do you bold text on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn posts have no native bold option, so people use Unicode characters that look bold. Select your words here, click Bold, copy the post and paste it into LinkedIn.

Is bold text on LinkedIn bad for accessibility?

It can be. Screen readers may read these characters one by one, spell them out or skip them, because they are math symbols rather than normal letters. Keep styled text to a few words and never put essential information only in styled characters.

Does styled text show up in LinkedIn search?

Search engines and LinkedIn search treat these characters as different from normal letters, so a styled word may not match a search for the plain word. Leave names, skills and keywords you want to be found for in regular text.

How much of a LinkedIn post shows before see more?

LinkedIn shows the first few lines and hides the rest. This tool uses three lines, or about 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile, as its guide. The exact cut varies with the screen, so put the point of the post in its first line.

Why are some characters not converted?

Unicode only has bold and italic versions of the basic Latin letters and, for some styles, digits. Accented letters, punctuation and emoji have no equivalent, so they stay in the normal font.
